I just got done browsing the paving stone manufacturers web site and they have a line of polymeric sand that they sell.

Feb 19, 2020 Sand is perfect but should be coarse, not fine for joints, you can also use polymeric sand which has additives to harden it. If you have organics constantly filling low joints, then you must have no slope away or pooling may be caused by the grade having a higher lip at the patio edge.

Mar 13, 2012 Re polymeric sand vs regular sand for paver patio There is absolutely NO EXCUSE to use anything but polymeric sand in 2012. My 10 year old daughter can install it flawlessly, so Im pretty sure you could. Make sure your joints are dry. Use a blower to blast out the joints again. Sweep in the sand. Run a plate compactor and reapply.
We have regular sand instead of the polymeric sand between our pavers so water easily seeps through the sand. We like that option a lot with the driveway snow melts very quickly when the sun comes out but we plan to replace the regular sand with polymeric on the patio because the deck above drips on the patio and disturbs the sand making me feel like I always need to sweep the patio.
Nov 07, 2018 Hey guys, I have the majority of my paver patio laid and Im torn if I should leave the polymeric sand out of the joints over winter. During fall i know it will hard to keep my joints dry for the install and overnight temps will be dropping below freezing.
May 14, 2020 Use stone dust or limestone underneath. Make sure you wet and compact every 3 inches or so. Jul 05, 2016 Polymeric sand is very good against weeds and ants. You have to be very careful applying it . Before you water it make shure no sand is left on stones. Blower is a must, read instructions on the bag. When wet it will stain the surface of the stone. Very hard to clean after.
Jan 02, 2012 They are set in stone dust, but the steep hill and water runoff on the site make it a necessity to add stone dust every spring. Was wondering how well polymeric sand would work in this case where we have to get it back off the pavers someday
The best of the resinbased slurry grouts are superb products, offering speedy and sound jointing with minimal effort. The only real downside up to now has been the cost, but as the market has developed, this has now settled at a level that makes this group of products reasonably competitive with the better cementbased proprietary brands.

Apr 08, 2020 Grout can keep pavers from moving and edges chipping and being a trip hazard. Thick grout lines or thin grout lines or no grout is a style choice. Some people prefer one look over the other. With your pavers laid into mortar with tight spacing there is no need for grout. And your pavers have a rounded beveled edge so it will not chip.
Jun 07, 2014 Polymeric sand is by far your best option. Regular sand will wash out and weeds will grow in it. There was a while where companies were figuring out the blend and polymeric sand had problems, but that has been resolved for a while now. As long as you apply it properly you shouldnt have any problems with the polymeric sand.
